Fighting Back Partnership developed the Positive Youth Development Programs to operate in all three Vallejo City Unified
School District (VCUSD) high schools to provide youth Alcohol, Tobacco and other Drugs (ATOD) use prevention education curricula and Child Abuse Prevention
Education. The programs aim to equip students with information and tools to help them navigate the challenges they face in their everyday interactions and to give them the
confidence and wherewithal to make informed and healthy decisions.

Youth Development Programs
Electronic Smoking Devices: That Cloud Is Not Just Water Vapor
Electronic smoking devices (ESDs) go by names such as e-cigarettes, e-hookahs, hookah pens, vape pens, and mods. They come in many shapes and sizes. ESD devices heat liquid to create
an aerosol of nicotine and other chemicals that users inhale into their lungs.
According to the California Healthy Kids Survey, 2015-16 main report, 58% of Solano County 11th graders reported it is “fairly easy” to “very easy” for
students to get ESDs. The 2016-17 main report shows that 31.7% of 11th graders in Solano County used an ESD. Studies find that youth who have used ESDs are 7 times more likely to
smoke traditional tobacco cigarettes a year later.
WHAT CAN YOU DO?
Advocate for banning ESDs in places that already ban other tobacco use.
Support Youth Partnership, a coalition of youth working to reduce ESD and tobacco use among youth in Vallejo
Educate others about the harms of ESDs and other tobacco products
